Stress and the Body

Without the ability to process emotions through the body, we often end up relying solely on the mind to “deal with” our feelings – something the mind is just not qualified to do on its own. We end up doing things like pushing emotions down or denying that they’re there, projecting onto others, or intellectualizing our feelings all together. As a result, we experience a disconnect between the mind and body, which often shows up as feeling heady, anxious, overwhelmed, irritable, unable to sleep, tense, or just downright STRESSED OUT.

When we can accept and be with the truth of our experience, however, body and mind are aligned. We feel calmer, more able to be present, and connected to our inner knowing. How do we know how to get in touch with the truth of our experience? We presence with our bodies and allow ourselves to be with the energy of our feelings.

If you’re feeling stressed out and ready to shift, begin to tune into your body regularly. What sensations are you noticing? What emotions go with that sensation? What might your body be trying to communicate to you?

As you move through the various energies of emotion and reconnect in mind and body, trust that whatever pain-in-the-ass stressful experience you’re having might actually be a gift calling you to embrace the truth of how you feel and what it is you really want.
