Most of the time, until we surrender to what is, moving forward is like swimming upstream. It’s possible, but it feels more like force, rather than ease and flow.
Surrender doesn’t mean giving up. It simply means that instead of running from what is, we embrace a spirit of acceptance and allowing. When we acknowledge the reality of our circumstance and whatever emotions might come along with it, we can then choose to embrace a new stance, one that welcomes this moment and all it entails. “I have been unable to make this pain go away with all of my best efforts. I accept that I cannot change this on my own, and I choose to open to a new way.”
When we stop resisting, we allow room for answers to come in. The right people show up at the right time and slowly we get what we need to heal. Although we may not be where we want to be (yet), we find that in time with acceptance we are more relaxed, feeling more like ourselves, and experiencing greater insights.
Surrender isn’t a lightning bolt event that happens overnight. It is a process that we practice and keep coming back to. It requires self-awareness and the ability to notice when we are in resistance.
If you’re in pain, I see you. I know what it’s like to be pissed off, scared, frustrated, and stuck because your body won’t do what you want it to do. Moving into surrender doesn’t mean we try and feel a certain way. It means that we step outside of our situation and accept it for what it is, uncomfortable feelings included. Instead of responding to pain with fear of what the future might bring, we release these thoughts and return to today. “In this moment I have pain, but tomorrow is a new day. I trust the process of life and that my body only wants me to heal.”
Surrender aids pain recovery because when we accept the things we cannot control, we free up energy to take action toward the things we can – like releasing resistance, feeling our feelings, and moving forward with next steps toward healing physically. Trust that when you decide to release your grip and surrender into what is, healing will come naturally, answers will become clear, and unlimited possibilities will unfold.
